Basics of motor cycling for our safety and the safety of others on the road we share with them. As we all know the weather has or is changing on a daily basis. To our members in the mountains, they have some different road conditions to deal with other than those we flat landers have to ride over. So here is some hazards to keep in mind as you go along the freeways of the state of California:
SEE:
S= search: actively scanning the area ahead of you for potential
hazards.
E= evaluate: process the information you have gathered by searching
and decide if what you see presents a potential hazard.
E= execute: make a decision on a course of action ( if required ) and
do it. be confident, don't hesitate. The bottom line is if you don't
identify potential hazardous changes in the road surface before you
reach them, it may be too late to react appropriately.
Here is some situations to be on the look out for or expect along your travels.
1) dirt or gravel roads
2) rain/wet roads the season is coming up
3) mountain riders- snow/ice
4) rain grooves
5) bumps and cracks
6) railroad tracks
Riding in group formation. Members should practice riding defensively and not aggressively when riding in a group formation. It was discussed that this practice is contagious and those behind will follow your lead.
I know we all have encountered many of these hazards in our travels, it is still wise to recall how you traversed them to be where your at today. There is a good source of information i get is from the Hog magazine for which i am a member of. so if there is any questions or concerns to email them to me or we cantalk about them in our meeting.
