CA-IV Business Meeting
Saturday, March 28, 2011
Rancho Cucamonga, CA

The meeting was called to order at 9:02 a.m. by President Wally Rice, with a pledge of allegiance, followed by an opening prayer by Chaplain Winkler.

The minutes of the April meeting were read by Secretary Scurti & approved by appropriate motions.

REPORTS
The Financial Report by Treasurer Al Mendoza, read as follows: The CAHP Regular Savings account has a balance of $8,77.15, the Twin Pines account has $51.13, the Relief for Fallen Officers account has $1503.01, & the Checking (Classic Share Draft) account has $1649.00.  This report was approved after a motion by Russ Golesh and a second by Corbet Macy.

President Rice introduced guest John Lopotosky, president of newly formed and officially sanctioned Blue Knights Chapter 24, and his wife, Tina, former Wellness Coordinator for Chapter 4.  John then introduced his Vice-President, Sergeant Pete Whittenberg from the Riverside County Presley Detention Center and his spouse, Michelle.  Wally then had members present announce their names and department affiliation for those not familiar with the membership.

Ride Coordinator Erick Reed reported that we had good attendance for the ride to the 35th Annual California Peace Officer’s Memorial Ceremony in Sacramento, on May 1.  The riders consisted of 6 Chapter 4 members and 13 Ventura Chapter members, most of who stayed at the downtown Motel 6.  A candlelight vigil was held the first night, followed by the actual memorial ceremony the next day. Some also attended the CHP Memorial on the following day.  Erick also gave an update on Chris Woodin, who suffered a heart attack and subsequent treatment, including quadruple bypass surgery, while in Sacramento.  Wally commented that consideration is being given to making this an annual ride.

President Rice reported that our chapter has received correspondence from the Riverside Peace Officer’s Association, thanking us for our moral and financial support for fallen officer Ryan Bonaminio.

Wally also commented on the members he appointed to the Fallen Officers committee, including Al Irwin, Mitch White, and Dale Siglar, who are tasked with taking action in the event a member needs our assistance.  He then discussed the draft policy, which would allow action to be taken by the Board within 10 days, allowing an expedited processing of a $250 check to an officer.  After discussion and a motion by Corbet Macy and a second by Wayne Kubicek, a vote was taken and the motion was passed.

Wally asked Tina Lopotosky to report on her difficulties as Wellness Coordinator, which she graciously did.  Wally reported that Sherry Widmeier and Marie Golesh have accepted the assignment of the Wellness Coordinator duties, but pointed out that we all need to keep them appraised of member wellness issues, so they can act appropriately.  Al Irwin took action to divide the membership into four groups, with each assigned to a director, and Winkler as an overseer.

Due to Phil DuBois’ absence, the Quartermaster’s report was tabled to the next meeting.

Wally announced that he had received a call from Guy O’Connor, Chair of the Southwest Conference, asking our chapter to host the Southwest Conference in 2013.  Russ Golesh made a motion that we host the conference as requested, a second was made by Al Mendoza, and it was passed by a vote of the members present.

After discussion of Sheriff Hoops COPS ride, a motion was made by Corbet Macy, seconded by Erick Reed, that we make a $250 donation to the SBSO COPS event.  The motion passed, and Eric volunteered to present the check, in behalf of our chapter, at the event.

Wally also announced that a group of members planned to leave for the Southwest conference on June 15th at 6:00 am from Bob Winkler’s residence, and asked that anyone planning to ride with this group please let Bob know, so he can anticipate your arrival.

Door prizes were distributed, and Wayne Kubicek won $50.00 in the 50-50.

At 1015 hours Russ Golesh made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Al Mendoza, and was carried by the members present.
