CA-IV Business Meeting

The meeting was called to Order at 9:10 a.m. by Director & Past President Rod Purcell, with a pledge of allegiance, followed by an opening prayer & a moment of silence for fallen officers.

 

The minutes of the March meeting were read by Secretary Scurti & approved by appropriate motions.

 

The Financial Report was submitted by Treasurer Al Mendoza, provided by Director Joe Delgado as follows: The CAHP Regular Savings account has a balance of $8,374.42, the Twin Pines account has $51.00, the Relief for Fallen Officers account has $2,002.27, & the Checking (Classic Share Draft) account has $2,500.00.  This report was also approved by appropriate motions.

 

Director Purcell announced that Chapter 13 is holding their Fifth Annual Gun Raffle, in which the first prize will be a Mossberg Model 500 Field/ Security Combination shotgun with two barrels.  Second prize will be $100.00 cash, & the third prize will be $50.00.  $2.00 per ticket donations was available from Chapter 13 President Rick Morales (bkca13president@hotmail.com), and a drawing was to be held on May 28th, with all the proceeds going to Children’s Charities.

 

It was also announced that a special presentation was going to be made by motivational speaker Bob Wieland at the April meeting.  It was mentioned that the topic would probably be related to fallen officers & should not be missed.

 

Quartermaster Phil DuBois reported that we are almost out of rockers, which he will be ordering soon.  He also reported that he was concerned about our appearance at funerals & suggested that we look into a uniform dress, such as a black shirt, etc.  It was mentioned that there is recommended attire consisting of a white shirt & blue slacks, & that a name tag with chapter number might be appropriate.  The matter was subsequently tabled for further discussion.

 

Ride Coordinator Eric Reed reported that an e-mail has been sent out regarding the Redlands Bicycle Classic, with the primary dates being April 1 & 3rd for which help was needed.  He also reminded us of the upcoming Peace Officers Memorial ride on May 1st.  He also reminded us of San Diego Cal VI Annual Benefit Poker run, for which more information would be forthcoming.

 

New Business: The policy regarding chapter support for the families of fallen officers was discussed subsequent to a meeting by committee members Al Irwin, Dale Siglar, & Mitch White. A motion was made by Mitch that we donate $250.00 to Cathedral City officer Gibson’s family, which was seconded by Joe Delgado and approved by a vote of the members present.

 

Roundtable:

 

Southwest Conference Safety Officer Richard Bennett gave an update on Yuma member Buster & Gay Hummel.  He also discussed the possible causative factors involved in the accident, & urged that members keep their motorcycle in good operating order, do a safety check before each ride, and that we pack carefully.

 

Chris Woodin reported that members planning to ride to the Peace officers Memorial in Sacramento will be meeting in Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday May 1 at 7:30 a.m. We will then meet seven members of the Ventura Chapter in Castaic at 9:00 a.m.  We plan to attend the candlelight vigil that night, the next day we will attend the official ceremony in which new fallen officers’ names will be announced for inclusion.  We will then return home on Sunday.

 

Guest member John Lopotosky announced that his new chapter is continuing to meet, and had nine members at its last meeting and that a charter is pending.  He continues to invite guests to attend, is soliciting more members to join and invites anyone interested to attend their meetings, which are held at Rodrigo’s restaurant located at Winchester and Nicholas Roads.

 

Terry Rammell won $50.00 in the 50-50 and no one won the poker chip, which will raise the amount for the next drawing to $30 next month.

 

At 1012 hours Russ Golesh made a motion to adjourn by, which was seconded by Wayne Kubicek, and was carried by the members present.
