CA-IV Business Meeting
Saturday, June 25, 2011
Rancho Cucamonga, CA
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by
President Wally Rice, with a pledge of allegiance, followed by an opening
prayer by Chaplain Robert Winkler. Robert also brought a special guest, Jake,
who has survived & recovered from several surgeries.
The minutes of the May meeting were read by
Secretary Scurti & approved after a motion by Russell Golesh and a second
by Dwayne Taylor.
REPORTS
The Financial Report provided by Treasurer Al Mendoza, and
read by president Rice was as follows: The CAHP Regular Savings account has a
balance of $8,77.15, the Twin Pines account has $51.13, the Relief for Fallen
Officers account has $1603.01, & the Checking (Classic Share Draft) account
has $1649.00. This report was approved
after a motion by Rocky Hamilton and a second by Joe Delgado.
President Rice announced that Treasurer Al Mendoza
has submitted a request for transfer to southwest Riverside County chapter 24,
but stated that he was willing to continue his duties as Treasurer. Wally indicated that he felt that we should
have a member of our chapter assume the position, for which he requested that a
member step forward to fill the role and its responsibilities.
Wally also reported that the unofficial meeting is
set for July 13, that the Board meeting - to which all are invited to attend -
is July 20, & that the next chapter meeting will be held on July 23.
Ride Coordinator Erick Reed reported that we had
four members attend the annual SBSO COPS benefit ride, at which he presented
the donation from our chapter. He
described it as a positive event, in which they rode to Lucerne Valley and
enjoyed the camaraderie.
Eric also reported that three of our members met,
rode to, and participated in the San Diego Chapter VI benefit ride. He stated that the day started out damp, but
quickly became dry, and the lunch was good.
He rated this as also being an enjoyable event.
Quartermaster Phil DuBois reported that he currently has
$1600 in his account, largely due to the fact that his “cupboard is bare,” but
that he will soon be placing orders to replenish his supply. He asked if there was any interest in a
simple short sleeve shirt, and after receiving a positive response, he
indicated that he would look into ordering a supply.
Phil then gave a report of his ride to the Midwest
conference, held in a Midwest venue in Kansas City, which was attended by
approximately 160 members. His itinerary
included Mesa, Springerville – where he experienced smoke from the huge fire
actively burning – then on through Socorro, Roswell and Amarillo, before
reaching his destination. He was able to
attend a tour of the Harley Davidson plant in Olathe, Kansas and, in
interacting with others in the group, he noticed a somewhat unsavory appearance
of some present, and could understand why some people have a low opinion of
ours or affiliated law enforcement clubs.
Wally noted that Chris Woodin was in attendance at the
meeting, for which we were all appreciative, then opened the meeting for
comments for the Good of the Order.
Mention was made that anything to help ride safety was worth looking
into, including devices such as the Back-Off module that flashes the
brakelights when the brake pedal is applied.
Members were informed that George Lanterman may have fallen on hard
times, and those who know him might want to attempt contact. Sue Birozy, Dennis’ surviving spouse, had
also suffered hard times, but was now en route from Florida and needed
assistance picking up her property and loading a truck. Terry Rammell discussed that strong
consideration was being given to again holding the next Southwest conference in
Big Bear, but other venues were up for consideration as well, such as the Pechanga
resort. He noted that we have a lot of
time left; however, time is passing, we need to get started, and input is
welcome. Rod Purcell announced that our
website is up to date, including the Wellness notification section, which can
now be used. Erick Reed announced that
the Desert Thunder event is set for July 9, along with the Chapter 13 poker
run.
Door prizes were distributed, and Phil DuBois won
$77.50 in the 50-50.
At approximately 1020 hours Dwayne Taylor made a
motion to adjourn, which was seconded by Joe Delgado, and was carried by the
members present.
