CA-IV Business Meeting
Saturday, January 22, 2011
Rancho Cucamonga, CA
Call to Order at 9:03 am by President Wally Rice
The presentation of a plaque was made to Rod Purcell for his last two years of service as our president, and acknowledgement was given for his many years of dedicated service to the organization, in various roles.
Secretary’s Report: Secretary Scurti read the November minutes, as there was no official meeting in December. The minutes were approved after appropriate motions.
President’s Report: The Twin Pines Christmas event was again determined to be a huge success and a recap of the expenditures was given. Donations were received from the riders of the 29 motorcycles that were ridden to the event, as well as from other members. This was subsequently augmented by $35,000 in discretionary funds from three members of the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, which will support trade and occupational programs at the facility. Rod Purcell moved that the event again be held on the first Saturday of December of this year, the motion was seconded by Bob Winkler, and it passed.
Members were also reminded that the annual Palm Springs fellowship ride was being held on January 28th & 29th, but that members were welcome to join any time and meet our brothers who will be attending from several other states.
Old Business: A motion was made by Corbet Macy to allow the sunset clause on the “50-25-25” to expire, that we return to the “50-50,” and that there be no cap on the drawing for the $5 poker chip, except that the member must be present to win. The motion was seconded by Rich Widmeier and it was passed by the majority of the members present.
New Business: President Rice discussed the death of Riverside police officer Bonaminio and the fact that we have no policy regarding support for fallen officers. He then appointed Mitch White and Dale Sigler to address and report on the issue. Vince subsequently made a motion, seconded by Al Irwin, that a $250 donation be made to the family of officer Boniminio. The motion passed.
Russ Golish reported that he and several other members attended the ride to Salvation Mountain and got to meet the somewhat eccentric but very religious Leonard Knight, who has dedicated his life to the monument. He stated that the group ate lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant in Niland and then rode home from there. He added that it was a cold day, but everyone seemed to enjoy the camaraderie and have a good time.
Jim Harkins reported on upcoming USMC events, including a weapons display later in the week.
Jim Harkins also won the 50-50, and Rocky Hamilton won the poker chip but, unfortunately, was absent!
A motion was made to adjourn by Dwayne Taylor, seconded by Russ Golish, and was carried by the members present.
